Highlight for Album: Haynes Star Ship
Album: Haynes Star Ship

The original model was designed as a 1937 rubber powered Wakefield series. It appeared in the 1938 Model Aeronautics Yearbook…by Frank Zaic. It was identified as the ‘Kievit – 1937’ Wakefield by H. Kerkhoff – Ontwerp.HOL. I drew the finished plan from a 4 ½” x 7” sketch in the yearbook. The original model had a 53 ½ inch wingspan. I enlarged it up to 144 inches. I have not checked the weight, but think it weighs around 13-14 lbs. It has elevator, rudder, and motor controls. It’s powered by a 90 RCV, 4 strokes engine from England. The model is covered with white fibafilm, with painted turquoise strips on top and rudder. The blue tapered accent stripe is cut from 21st Century dark blue. I c named it ‘Star Ship’ ( which I hand cut) because of the large stars on the wings. It is so large that I had to work in several rooms of my home. Much of the construction and assembly had to be done in my drive-way.
