Celebrating 107 Years of Flight! 1903 - 2010

The Gaston RC Flyers is an AMA chartered club, formed in 1963 and dedicated to flying, fun, and fellowship. Our club is located in Gaston County, North Carolina, approximately 30 miles west of Charlotte, near the North Carolina/South Carolina border, and currently consists of approximately 50 members of all ages and skill levels.

Brooks Field, our club flying field, named for former member Lewis Brooks, is located near the town of Bessemer City, and boasts a 400 foot long paved runway running roughly north-south. Our field is a converted landfill, and is provided for our use by Gaston County Parks and Recreation. The field has ample parking, a large flying area, 5 pilot stations, several work tables, a shed type shelter and transmitter impound, picnic tables, and a chemical toilet. Flight operations are limited to 10 am to 7pm (or dusk during the winter months) Monday through Saturday and 12pm to 7pm on Sundays. Visitors, those interested in joining us, or those who just want to come and watch are always welcome. If you are a visitor or non-member, however, it’s always wise to check with a member before coming out, as our field is locked when no members are present.

We sponsor two major events each year, a Fun Fly in the Spring, and the Annual Vernon Haynes Old-Timer in the Fall. We also sponsor other fly-in events, a model show at the local shopping mall, and other community oriented events throughout the year.

Our members fly all types of fixed-wing aircraft : trainers, sport planes, warbirds, electrics, sailplanes, scale, old-timers, etc.

Our club goals are simple : have fun, enjoy the friendship of fellow pilots, learn and teach what we learn, have fun, promote the safe and courteous practice of our chosen hobby, have fun, fly, fly, fly, and did I mention, have fun?

The goal of this website is to provide useful information to everyone interested in flying, and, especially to give those who are just beginning a good place to start learning about our chosen hobby. So, have fun, enjoy your visit, and please don’t hesitate to contact us!
